What makes this different
Two design choices set this apart from a static grid:
- Per-cell status, not just working/not-working: each cell is one of six states (sleep, sleep-prep, morning, work, evening, social) with its own colour.
- Two ribbons per city: a "local" ribbon and an "in anchor time" ribbon, so you can compare what 14:00 means for everyone simultaneously.
How to use it
- Add cities from the dropdown. The ribbons update instantly.
- Pick the day of the week you want to inspect. Weekends are handled differently.
- Hover any cell on the ribbon to read the local time and status for that city.
- Click an hour to see what that hour looks like in every city at once.
Most working-hours visualisations use a flat bar from 9 to 5. That hides the reality that a 22:00 meeting is not just "outside working hours" but actively antisocial. This tool draws a 24-hour ribbon per city, where green means working, amber means evening, red means asleep, and grey means weekend. You can see the overlap visually and click any hour to see who would be on the call.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the ribbon look different for the same person on different days?
Working hours are slightly relaxed on Friday in many cultures, and Saturday/Sunday are flagged as weekend regardless of local working hours. The day selector lets you model that.
How are sleep and evening distinguished?
We use a fixed schedule: 23:00-06:59 = asleep, 07:00-08:59 = wake-up, 09:00-17:59 = working, 18:00-21:59 = evening, 22:00-22:59 = social/late. You can mentally shift this, but the colours stay consistent across cities.
Can I add more than five cities?
Yes, but the table will scroll horizontally on small screens. Five to seven cities is the comfort zone.
